“In the House” – Opening Ceremony Regina Curling Club (circa 1959)
This is an incredibly rare image — one of Canada’s national treasures, Gordie Howe, participating in the grand opening of a curling club in central Saskatchewan (believed to be Regina). It is also believed through research, that this picture was shot prior to training camp (likely September) in 1959.
Shown throwing the “1st Rock” and with bagpiper on hand for the formalities. As a native of Floral SK (but growing up in Saskatoon), Gordie looks right at home and certainly not the first time he would have slid through the house to throw a curling rock.
The image size is 18″ x 18″, which the custom framed size 28″ x 29″ (outside frame measurements). It is double matted in a solid black wood frame, together with a descriptive sublimated plaque. A real Canadian Classic!
